Rack-PDU Market Growth To Be Driven Through Colocation Service Providers
A market research company, Market Reports Center forecast the global data center Rack-PDU market to grow at a CAGR of 6.78% during the period 2017-2021. With that note, even though the Indian data center market is very small in size, just 1.2% of the world’s data centre IT infrastructures and 5.23 per cent of Asia-Pacific’s (APAC), the Indian data center Infra market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 23% to $7 billion by 2020. According to another report by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), an approximate 40 million square feet will be added to the global data centre market by the end of 2017, while in India, the total new addition of Data Center Floor area in million Square Feet would be 0.5 Million Sq ft. in 2017, making India’s data center capacity to be over 7 million sq ft. Indian data center market is on track to meet the projected data consumption demand of 2.3 million petabytes by 2020. The surge in data usage over the recent years have thrusted the Indian data center market into an optimistic trajectory, making India the second fastest growing market in Asia Pacific. It is observed that the captive data centers (owned & operated by enterprises) make a lion’s share in the market, but with the fast penetration of cloud, they are gradually reducing and switching to the third-party service providers, which accounted for a 40 percent share in 2016, compared to 20 percent five years ago. High opportunity cost of reliable power supply as well as real estate are driving the demand for third party service providers, called Co-location and cloud service providers. In such a scenario, where the operating model is going to play a crucial role in defining the profitability of these co-location service providers, the precise calculation of power consumption will be at the center stage in the SLA (Service Level Agreement) and eventually billing of their services to their clients. A smart rack-PDU will be expected to do the job and help third-party service provider manage their power usage efficiently and effectively. The experts believe that the demand for Smart Rack-PDU is expected to rise amidst the changing landscape, where the cloud and colocation companies will be calling the shots, when it comes to coping with the demand from new Cloud-Empowered-Digital India.
