What is a DIN connector? Everything you should know

Introduction – DIN connector

The term DIN stands for Deutsches Institut fur Normung e.V. The electrical DIN connector was originally standardized in the early 1970s by the German National Standards Organization.

The standardized term DIN connector does not refer to any specific type of connector without an associated number. The standard naming system used to represent the DIN connector is DIN 43650 connector, such standards enable the manufacturer as well as the consumer to navigate multiple DIN connector standards with ease and convenience. DIN 43650 connectors are also known as the EN 175301-803 standards.

Micro-DIN connectors are available in smaller sizes, but they are very alike to their larger and older . DIN connectors belong to a family of multi-pin electrical connectors. The ISO 44counterparts00 stands for the standards set by the International Organization for Standardization, which are exclusively made for electrical connectors.

Design structure

When it comes to DIN connectors, there are multiple gasket options based on the material they are made of such as NBR profile, NBR flat, or EPDM flat. Here, NBR rubber stands for nitrile rubber, an oil-resistant material, and EPDM rubber stands up well to weather, ozone, and heat.

The thread types for the cable entry solely depend upon the form you choose such as the Form A connectors are available in PG 9, PG 11, M16 threads, Form B connectors are available in ½” NPT threads, and Form C connectors are available in PG 7 thread only.

On top of that, each form consist of different pin spacing and pin type options such as the Form A connector has a “U” shaped pin facing with an 18 mm pin spacing, Form B connector has 10 mm and 11 mm pin spacing, and Form C connector has flat blade pins with 9.4 mm or 8 mm pin spacing.

Application and Benefits

The application of DIN connectors can be found in a diverse range of electrical products such as in conjunction with pneumatic devices, in hydraulics machines and machinery, electromagnetic devices, including solenoid valves. DIN connectors are utilized in a sizeable proportion in electrical and electronic solutions such as proximity switches, pressure transducers, and level sensors, including low-energy motors and limit switches.

These DIN connectors consist of additive benefits such as improved product performance, simplified manufacturing processes, reduced inventory, which eventually leads to decreased application cost. DIN connectors have met different overvoltage protection requirements and are also made to function within certain voltage limits.

Elcom’s DIN connector is heavily used in dusty, oily, or humid environments. Additionally, these connectors can serve DC current, AC current, and specified voltage requirements. Elcom’s DIN connectors also provide connector modification options which include modification of indicator lights and modification of surge suppression.

Conclusion

Elcom’s DIN (solenoid) connectors have successfully captured a major market share of the emerging large-scale electronics industry and other associated industrial sectors on solenoid valves, pressure switches, and other electrical devices.

The quick assemble factor and out-of-the-box plug and operate features help reduce the additional extra work and associated labor cost of the DIN connector’s installation process making the product convenient for the end-user.

Elcom’s phenomenal DIN connector product array majorly includes DIN plugs (flat), DIN plugs (micro), DIN sockets (PG9, PG11), DIN sockets (PG9), DIN sockets (PG7), and DIN plugs (curved).

Elcom manufactures advanced electronics and smart electromechanical components for the Indian and foreign markets catering to diverse consumer needs and market demands ranging from large-scale manufacturing markets to modern sustainable energy markets.

Elcom International enables its customers to effectively connect, manage, control, and efficiently distribute electrical energy with the help of innovative solutions and reliable products such as DIN connectors, solar connectors, and power distribution units.
